#WhyGE campaign: From 150 Words to 140 Characters
We asked GE employees who voluntarily participated in the Be a Recruiting Ambassador essay contest that exact question. Participants of the contest submitted a brief explanation of why they enjoy working for GE and what motivates them. The rules were simple – don’t exceed 150 words, tell us how long you’ve been with GE, and be honest!
The responses that we received were as diverse as the group of employees that submitted them, but they all shared one common thread – inspiration. So we decided to share them with the rest of world using Twitter.
Twitter is a social network that offers microblogging services where users can “tweet” or post messages to their followers in 140 characters or less. Users can subscribe to one another’s tweets by “following” that user.
Our US Recruiting team manages two Twitter communities – @GEConnections, an account designed to deliver interesting news and job opportunities at GE Energy, Aviation, Transportation, and AMSTC businesses, and @GEHiresHeroes, which focuses on military recruiting and current events. In the past, we’ve been able to assist job seekers who were searching for career opportunities with GE through Twitter.
With each GE Recruiting Ambassador’s permission, we feature part of their essay in the weekly “WhyGE” tweets. The tweet includes a (very) brief summary of their essay submission and the #WhyGE hashtag, which helps Twitter users find the submissions after they are posted. We’ve selected our favorite #WhyGE tweets below:
- From Hector: At GE Energy, we are providing the most technologically advanced solutions to the world’s energy requirements #WhyGE ^LT
- From Leon: Coming to GE from the Army was a smooth transition because of the drive & camaraderie in GE’s culture #WhyGE ^LT
- From Penny: My fellow employees come from a wide variety of backgrounds, leading to unique approaches to problem solving #WhyGE ^LT
