Although I cannot relate to it, I can imagine that the job of a recruiter is very difficult. For the majority of your candidates, you have to dispense bad news that they did not get a particular job. I would also imagine they receive many emails checking status, I know I have hounded recruiters in the past. But when you put in your email to a candidate, “Generally, should you want to follow up, email is the best way.”……there is an expectation that sending an email is ok and would warrant a response. That has not been the case for me.
I applied for a position with GE and received an email from a recruiter on Oct 16 seeking answers to a list of questions. I replied that day, asked a question in my email, but did not get a response. I sent another email on Oct 19, asking if my information was received (that was all), no response. I then sent an email on Oct 29, same question….did you get my information, unfortunately again no reply.
Like I said in my opening, I can only imagine a recruiter gets 100′s of emails like this in a given day….but if you are going to advertise that email is the best way to follow up, have the courtesy of replying. Even if all I got back was , YES, …..that tells me my email got through in this day and age of spam filters and other messaging hygiene systems in place.

i was interviewed few week back around 2 weeks for GE graduate engineer trainee. were my profile was shortlisted by naukri website for GE lighting industries as Graduate engineer trainee sales
i m basically B.E(EEE) 2012 graduate . my Group discussion round was done with all the 3 senior executives of GE india bangalore were quite impressed any igot my feedback too from them as i was impressive.. dey said i was selected .. when i was backing up for any other process they said wait you will get a call from our senior HR name not be disclosed. but still i didnt get any call is it a issue to be freaked of .. or should i directly visit them and ask about my further process. or they are just playing with me..reply asap
