GE targets homegrown talent in hiring blitz

General Electric Co.’s hiring spree in Southeast Michigan is anchored by local talent experienced in information technology. About 90 percent of the center’s 700 employees at its Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center in Van Buren Township hail from Michigan. The company is hiring about 10 IT professionals a week, and by 2013, the Van Buren facility is expected to house the largest concentration of GE IT employees in the world.

GE announced that it’s opening a new Information Security Technology Center that will specialize in cyber security. For GE’s IT experts, it’s part of a broad-based effort to ensure that GE systems and security teams stay ahead of a rapidly changing, constantly evolving technology landscape. For Glen Allen, Virginia, which is just north of Richmond, it means jobs, as the high-tech hub will grow to roughly 200 employees over the next few years.
