GE to invest $200 million

General Electric said it would invest about $200 million for setting up an infrastructure equipment manufacturing facility in India. It also said that it would recruit over 3,000 people for the same this year. “Initially, we would invest $50 million for setting up the manufacturing facility. The total investment will be around $200 million and the company will take a call in the next 3-6 months.

John G. Rice, vice-chairman of General Electric Co. and president and chief executive of GE Technology Infrastructure, is scheduled to shift from the US to a new base in Hong Kong. It will be the first time a GE executive as senior as him will relocate from the company’s headquarters. In an interview in Delhi, Rice said the move will bring the multinational company more in tune with local needs.

Wipro GE Healthcare to hire up to 600 people in 2yrs

Wipro GE Healthcare today said it will hire up to 600 people to enhance its marketing force in the next two years, as part of plans to clock a revenue of USD one billion by 2015. The firm, a joint venture between Wipro and global conglomerate GE’s healthcare business, also said it will launch 10-12 products, which have been designed and developed in India in three years time.

$2.5B in Investments; $1.4B in Deals; and 25,000 EVs Later

GE’s locomotive plant in Brazil, seen above, provides an example of how the global push can translate into growth in hot markets such as Brazil, and jobs in the U.S. In the deal just made to supply rail operator MRS with 115 locomotives — the largest order in Brazil’s history — the locomotives themselves will be manufactured in GE’s plant in Contagem, Brazil, while the12-cylinder engines and key components will be made in GE’s Grove City, Pennsylvania plant.
