Would it be best to attend the career fair at Ft Sam Houston March 6th, or try to apply online?
Hi George,
Career fairs will always direct you to apply online in any case, but ideally you would go to the career fair and then apply online after speaking with a recruiter.
Good luck!

Hello. My name is Michael Utegg and I am a veteran of the U.S. Army, where I served 6 years. I currently work in a shop environment as a utility worker/foundry/mill for 23 years and desperately need a change and to have more career advancement opportunities. I am stuck in a dead end job. I need more earning potential for my family. I have applied numerous times for GE but didn’t know they give special consideration for veterans. Could someone please email me with job listings for our category? I have 23 years experience in silver plating, grinding, polishing, and I am OSHA certified as a Jitney driver and would love to get a job doing that on day shift or third shift. My resume is posted on this site and my phone number is 814-528-7337. I feel I would be a valuable asset to GE and I have only had 3 sick days in 23 years! Thank you, Michael.
Hi,
I am a Sheet metal worker and a veteran and I was wondering where to go to after I click on the link for veterans?
I am currently on orders to separate from the Army this summer and am originally from Erie, PA. I am interested in the JOLP. I have two initial questions; during the training program and rotations, are these located in Erie, or would we have to move for each rotation? Second, I know the payment programs would be lower for students, but in terms of trying to provide for a family, would I need a second job, or are students in the program making full-time, competitive wages?
I am a veteran and have apply for several position at GE. I apply in the HR department, and have not heard anything back yet.
I used to repair Sikorsky UH-60 Helicopters and did some US Infantry on the side, 5 1/2 yrs Active Army and 26 months AFG/IRQ deployed, just recently got out. I’m hearing GE wants 2,000+ Veterans?
I would love to work for your respected Company and would like to know how I may follow up on the Electronic Resumes, where do I find out who to call? – Thank you for your time.
Is there a way to indicate your veteran status within your GE careers profile. I have a current profile, but I did not see a place for this. Thanks for your time.
Tony

I am a United States Army veteran with an honorable discharge.
The past 12 months I have submitted for 38 job opportunities at the GE Bently Facility, 1631 Bently Parkway South. The response has been; GE is not pursuing your candidacy for this position. Based on my experience, track record and resume profile, I have all the qualifications for at least one job opportunity that I have submitted. October 19, 2011 I sent at email to the GE Corporate Feedback team to inquire my concern on what is required to meet GE Job opportunity requirements. The response was as following:
Due to global privacy and compliance regulations GE is not able to provide specific feedback on your candidacy. Please feel free to apply to any other position that suits your skills and interest at http://www.ge.com/careers.
I am disappointed with the Corp Feedback team. Job opportunities are in Minden NV, 89423. I live half mile from the facility. Year 2007 to 2008 I worked as a mechanical engineer contractor for one year at GE Bently, Minden NV. Projects I was responsible for were highly successful. Question, why am I rejected for these opportunities? Can you help answer GE rejections on job opportunities?

I remember when at one time, you were able to meet with human resources the day you applied. Now it’s e-mail a resume and HOPE for you number to be drawn. Any suggestions??
Thank you,

Hi Dennis,
GE can receive upwards of over a thousand applicants to just one job in the current economy, so it often takes time to review resumes. If you’d like to confirm that the position is still open, please feel free to send a note to gerecruiting@corporate.ge.com and we will follow up. For more resources for veterans please visit http://www.ge.com/veterans. For advice from recruiters on how to apply please see http://careers.geblogs.com/tag/recruiter-advice/page/10/

Hello, I’m a veteran about to finish an MBA and would like to know what opportunities are available in the Asia Pacific Region. Thanks!
Hi Nathan,
For veteran opportunities please see http://www.ge.com/veterans. For jobs in Asia please see http://jobs.gecareers.com/go/Jobs-in-Asia/236660/
Thank you for your service!
Thanks for the info, but I’ve already searched your website thoroughly. I was more interested the possibility of an American being hired in the Asia Pacific region. Is it possible? Does GE prefer locals? Are you actively placing Americans abroad? What countries? I’m in the region now, but I don’t want to apply to a local position if there’s little possibility I’ll be considered. Thanks again!
Like this job:
http://jobs.gecareers.com/job/ShangHai-Commercial-Leadership-Program-%28CLP%29-Job/1452020/
Would an American already in the Asia Pacific region be considered for this job? Thanks again!
I will be retiring from the Air Force after 21 years in February 2013. I would like to know how long the hiring process normally takes at GE. I am trying to figure out when I should start applying for jobs, so that I not wasting valuable time of possible employers. Thank you for your time.
Hi Nathan,
Most positions require work authorization, but check the requirements of the position before applying.
Good luck!
Hi Nathan,
For more information about CLP please see http://www.ge.com/clp. From the site:
GE is an equal opportunity employer. Legal authorization to work in the country/region where the business is hiring is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.
Hi Donald,
Your best bet is to attend one of GE’s career fairs for veterans as you get closer to the date. We only post a few months in advance but you’ll be able to find all the information you need at http://www.ge.com/veterans. You can ask one of our GE veterans as to their thoughts on time frame and possible opportunities for you at GE.
Thank you for your service!
Hi Nathan,
I am currently in the Air Force Reserve(Drilling). I live in Homestead Florida and was wondering if there are anything available for me in this part of the country as a reservist ?

I’ve applied for several positions here at the new Ft. Worth plant but I am not seeing where our status as veterans is being taken into consideration. The apps and resumes go in and nothing comes out. Is there another path to take which assures us our status is considered? Especially if we are not veterans of the more recent Middle East and Asian conflicts?
I am a CPT currently serving in the United States Army Reserve(Drilling). I live in Atlanta, GA and was wondering how do I find out about applying for a GE JOLP program ?
Hi Tom,
You should consider attending one of our career fairs at http://www.ge.com/veterans, particularly the job transition workshops where you can spend time with a GE veteran or HR professoinal who will review your resume and even conduct mock interviews. For career dates see http://www.ge.com/careers. For workshop dates see http://www.ge.com/military.

Hello! I have submitted my application online along with the other 10,000 applicants on March 14, 2012. However, I had no idea at the time on how to apply in order to tag my application on being a veteran. Will all applicants be called, and is your company still hiring? I feel I have a lot to offer! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION! Sheila Mohr
Hi Sheila,
If you applied by visiting http://www.ge.com/veterans you were automatically identified as a veteran. GE is indeed still hiring — check out the web site to see a list of jobs.
Thank you for your service!
Thank you for your response. I was not aware of the special website designed just for veterans, and of course applied at ge.com. Is there any way to correct this oversight, so that my veteran status is designated on my application?
I appreciate your input concerning this matter.
Thank You
Sheila Mohr
Hi Sheila,
Your best bet is to talk to a recruiter at one of the career fairs listed on that site, as that will ensure you receive additional focus as a veteran.
Hope that helps!
Dave,

I am a retired CW-4 with about 27 years Aviation Maintenance Management experience. I have a B.S in Professional Aeronautics and have applied to various positions at G.E. over the years with no success. Good evening Dave,
I am currently in the Marine Corps but I plan to get out in January, 2013. I will be finishing up my bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Technology at the University of Cincinnati. I am really interested in getting any type of job with GE to move to an engineering position. I am an aviation electronics technician on F/A-18 Jets with two years supervisor experience and quality assurance inspector experience. I will also be apart of the Co-op program and don’t know if GE offers internship positions as such. Thank you for your time!
O and P.S. I am stationed in South Carolina, therefore I don’t know if I will be able to attend a job fair for a recruiter. Is there an alternative way to speak with one?

Hello Dave,
I’m currently in the U.S. Navy as a mechanical nuclear engineer stationed in Washington getting out in October 2012. I unfortunately do not have any college experience but have much experience with mechanical systems, maintenance, and quality assurance controls. I’m having some trouble finding a match with what I could qualify for to apply my experience. Is there a possibility I could speak with someone to help me or lead me in the right direction? Your reply and advice would be much appreciated.
Hi Luke,
Please visit http://www.ge.com/veterans for more information about how we hire vets. We also recommend you attend one of the career fairs listed on that same page so you can speak with a recruiter directly.

I work at GE Transportation in Erie, PA and our Grove City, PA plant is currently working on expanding and hiring 150 new worker (https://www.genewscenter.com/Press-Releases/GE-Transportation-Expands-Manufacturing-in-Grove-City-3596.aspx). I also was in the US Army/Army Reserve and PA National Guard for 10 years. The last unit is was with when I ETS was C Btry 1/107 FA, 28 ID (PA National Guard) with a Armory at Oil City, PA. This unit has is staffed by some of the best soldiers in the US Military and has the best skills in heavy machinery maintenance and operations. This is from an area that has pioneered the oil and gas industry and still maintains a very capable work force. I think this would be a great opportunity to recruit directly from this Armory as well and it Headquarters unit in New Castle, PA and other units in Pittsburgh, PA and Hermitage, PA. With their work skills and close proximity, I believe this would be a rare opportunity to recruit Veterans from a large source close to one of our locations. Let me know if you would be interested and I can give you some contacts informtion.
Thanks,
Bill
Hi Bill,
Since you’re a GE employee we’ll contact you separately.
Thanks!

Greetings,
I recently applied for a Supervisory Human Resources position at the GE plant in Burlington, Iowa.
Much to my surprise, my resume (which was drafted by a firm specializing in military to civilian resume preparation) was rejected approximately 2 days after submittal. The stated reason: I had no previous manufacturing experience.
Really now…is previous manufacturing experience absolutely essential for a Supervisory Human Resources position?
When I contacted GE for additional insights, I was informed that although highly qualified, my lack of previous manufacturing experience represented a deep concern as to my ability to effectively perform the essential job qualifications in a Supervisory Human Resources position with GE. Apparently there was a concern I would be too easily intimidated by unionized employees.
Supervisory experience is first and foremost leadership and management experience. It matters little whether acquired in a military or manufacturing environment.
I asked the hiring authority if he had ever served in any branch of the military. He acknowledged he had not.
No, I never did work in a manufacturing environment, but I did lead 21 very scared Airmen during 6.5 weeks of sustained air combat during Operation DESERT STORM. I can certainly attest the stresses of combat are unlike any other occupational stress known.
Individuals do things in combat they would not otherwise do in a non-combat situation.
It takes a considerable understanding of human nature and true leadership to calm an exceptionally frightened individual armed with an M16 rifle (while squeezing the trigger) and aiming at my heart…an otherwise normal human being who was quite willing to take me with him before the enemy ‘got’ him. I guess I must have handled the situation correctly…I survived, the individual survived, and all 22 of us returned home with no visible wounds. This is my proudest achievement in 21 years of military service.
I wasn’t intimidated then, but now it appears an individual, with no military (let alone no combat) experience has determined my lack of a manufacturing background represents an unacceptable risk of intimidation by a unionized workforce.
Former CJCS Admiral Mike Mullen said it best…there is a growing disconnect between those who protect society and the members of the society itself…even after 20 years of continuous war.
I extend my deepest gratitude for a job well done under circumstances so many do not understand nor care to understand.
It is heartbreaking to see so many corporations whom have benefited very handsomely from Department of Defense contracts…turn you away because of a lack of manufacturing experience.
For those of you injured during combat…you now must prepare yourself for a new battle…read, ask questions…and arm yourself with knowledge of what the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) does.
Very Respectfully,
Haystack
Hi Dave,
Sir, I would like to respectfully recommend GE seriously examine the objective of the Junior Officer Leadership Program. Although this program has proven exceptionally benefical for a select number of Veterans, the program does not address the knowledge, skills, abilities and leadership experiences that Field Grade Officers AND enlisted members possess in the modern armed forces. As a former enlisted member AND junior officer, I am at a loss as to why GE precludes JOLP inclusion to talented veterans whom are excluded from an exceptional opportunity simply because they do not meet the current JOLP paradigm. As you well know, military members are much better educated and trained than in earlier years. Many enlisted members possess the same or greater academic qualifications as Junior Officers. Field Grade Officers traditionally possess Graduate degrees (I believe DOD regulations and policies mandate Graduate level degree attainment for promotion to Field Grade positions). An NCO with Squad Leader (or equivalent) experience is a capable leader that equals, if not exceeds that of a Junior Officer (been there, done that, both times. The Air Force now permits qualified enlisted members to attend Air Force Institute of Technology alongside both Junior and Field Grade Officers. Within the DOD the artifical barriers that once existed have either been eliminated or are being examined for inclusiveness and/or modification. Talent is not bounded by grade in today’s military. If JOLP evolved to become a merit-based inclusive program I believe GE would reap benefits for years to come.
Hi Haystack,
Our apologies for your experience. We continue to train our hiring staff to understand the skills veterans bring to the table.
This is precisely why we conduct career fairs for veterans, so that current GE Veterans Network employees and HR managers can come together with candidates to network, build bridges, and hopefully clear a path to a job. We cannot guarantee every veteran a job, but we can help understand each other a little better so that a veteran’s experience is considered appropriately for the task at hand.
You can find out more at http://www.ge.com/veterans.
Thank you for your service.
Hi Haystack,
We recommend you visit one of our career fairs, listed at http://www.ge.com/veterans, to speak directly with HR managers and GE Veterans Network members to share your insights. We’re always improving our veterans recruitment and are open to feedback.
Thank you for your service.

Hi Dave
I am a US Navy Veteran and I just applied for a sales manager position in the Denver market. While completing my profile I did not see a place to identify myself as a Vet. Other than something on my resume how can I do that?
Thanks
Hi Kevin,

I have 4 years experience in the train-building industry and currently pursuing an MBA. I retired Navy in 2005 and I am specifically interested in GEs new Transportation manufacturing plant in Ft. Worth, TX. How can I specifically target a career at that location?

Dave,
Referencing messages 122-125…I would like to attend a GE career fair, but presently I am unemployed and without the financial means to travel to and participate in such opportunities. Hence, my applications for two separate positions at the GE plant in West Burlington, IA, for which I was rejected both times. I guess I should have seen this coming…In my most recent application, I was asked to provide a response to an employment screening questionnaire in which I was specifically asked “11. Have you spoken with anyone regarding a position at GE, or are you currently interviewing at GE? If yes; what job did you apply for and whom did you speak with?” I am certain the HR representative(s) at the West Burlington plant read the comments in this column…otherwise why would I be asked this question (it is immaterial to the position for which I applied)? My second application was rejected after 4 days and a telephonic screening interview. I recieved a standard rejection email notification stating a choice had been made to select an individual with better qualifications. Okay…I’m not the best candidate. Got it. However, the position still is being advertised as “open” on the GE employment opportunties web page…indicating a suitable candidate is still being sought, which is a fabrication of material fact from what was disclosed to me in a rejection email message…not even a phone call to inform me I had been rejected. In my application for this most recent position, I disclosed I am a “Special Disabled Veteran” and went into tremendous detail regarding the numerous tax and financial incentives available to GE (to include reimbursement of up to 50% of my salary) should I be afforded the opportunity of employment. I also revealed I would require no accomodations to perform the essential functions of either position. I would love to discuss veteran employment issues, challenges and opportunities with the GE Human resources community. I am a former Pentagon Program Analyst, GS-14, who has drafted senior leadership Congressional testimony addressing a multitude of manpower and human resource challenges facing servicemembers since 1991. Travel to one of the career fairs is simply not an option for me. I would much rather be a part of a solution than a statistic. Where challenges exist…so do opportunities. But for now, I remain what Professor James Wright, President-Emeritus and professor of history at Dartmouth College, defines as “the Forgotten 1%” whom Americans applaud (but few really know).
Hi Haystack,
Please send a note with the job # of the position for which you applied to gerecruiting@corporate.ge.com so we can track down this position and investigate.
Thank you for your service.
Why does GE appliance park, tell people they are offered this job send to all the huddle and bustle of orientation and then not have the background check complete then notify them they are disqualified for some dates not matching for employment. They worked there but was off a few months! This is so sad! I am upset my friend is a great person.
Hi Christina,
Please send the note to gerecruiting@corporate.ge.com and we will investigate.

Hello,
I have been reading through this blog. Is there a military recruiter at all? I only see generic answers go online and apply! Is there any information on military recruiter?
Hi Jason,
There are several military recruiters, but to speak with them in person you’ll need to attend a veterans career fair. You can see the list of dates (soon to be updated for 2013) at http://www.ge.com/veterans.
Thank you for your service!
I had attended one of the fairs and was directed to apply online. I mean they just gave me information about the company and looked through my resume telling me i would be a qualified candidate. I don’t know to believe at this point!
Hi Jason,
You will always have to apply online for any job at GE. For a list of jobs specifically for vets, please see http://www.ge.com/veterans.

I am about to be medically retired from the Marine Corp. after beiing wounded in Afghaniistan in July 2011. I’m not sure what I want to do when I get out but I would like to find work in a company that would be willing to train me and teach me on the job as I have done in the past with my military service. I keep hearing about all the unfilled jobs in the US and I cant’t help but wonder if maybe one of those jobs might suit me.
Hello,

I am currently serving in the Army Reserves .
I have recently applied for 2 positions with GE, before coming across the information on veterans /reservists etc.
Is there any special consideration given to these people provided they are deemed & equally qualified for the jobs to which thet have aplied ?
Hi Eric,
GE encourages vets to apply, but we are also an equal opportunity employer and only hire the best candidates. For more advice on applying to GE, you should consider attending one of our career fairs or workshops listed at http://www.ge.com/veterans.
Thank you for your service!
Dear GE,
I am trying to land a Project Engineer/Manager position with GE in Louisiana. I have spoken with retired military at Hire our Heroes conference. I keep applying online but hear nothing back. I will keep trying both; GE is worth fighting for. I am a USAR Colonel, West Point Graduate, hold a BS Electrical Engineering, and am a Sr Project Manager in Pulp & Paper. Ideally, I would like to help GE in oil & gas (a great future for our country). Thanks for any help.
R,
COL Mike Arrington
