Bettina Fitt

Bettina Fitt is General Manager GE Healthcare UK and Ireland, Hatfield. In this interview she shares her experience working for GE.

What is your current role?

General Manager GE Healthcare UK and Ireland

How did you start your working life?

I trained as a Registered Nurse and Midwife

What has been the journey to that role in terms of other career milestones?

Studying for a law degree and an MBA, as well as opportunities to lead teams

When did you decide you wanted to take this career route?

Over time, one starts to learn where you add value and where you thrive – once I had established that I enjoyed dealing with customers and leading teams, the other decisions became easy.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

I love leading and developing people, and meeting customers

Have you had an important mentor along the way?

I have been most fortunate and have had the benefit of the wisdom of a few people during the course of my career

How has GE helped you progress in your career?

GE has given me the opportunity to lead a large complex organisation and the support and methodologies required to do so – I have been truly empowered

What tips and advice would you give to young women starting out on their career today?

Set your goals as high as you feel comfortable – the seemingly impossible is possible and it is possible to balance family and career

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Still enjoying working for GE

In your words, why do you think GE has been named one of the Times Top 50 employers for women?

There are so many opportunities and so many different career paths available within GE – more so than almost any other company – and there are great examples of women leaders in every area, be it engineering, leadership, aviation.  The strong women’s’ network and the support of it by the Senior leadership team underpins this.
