INROADS honors North Central students for outstanding internships
Two North Central College students are being recognized by INROADS, an organization that helps prepare minority students for corporate and community leadership. Sunbir “Sunny” Gill of Westmont, a 2010 graduate of North Central, and Carolina Hirsch of Naperville, a senior, received awards from INROADS for completing internships and other requirements. Gill was honored as Graduating Senior of the Year, and Hirsch was named Junior of the Year by the INROADS Great Lakes Region chapter.
Gill interned for two summers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where he helped monitor patients in exercise programs, and for one summer with American Family Insurance. Hirsch interned for four summers with General Electric, working in marketing and communications with GE’s Commercial Distribution Finance team and later gaining experience supporting the division’s tradeshows and events team.

Hello:
My name is Justin Thompson. I am interested in GE as a potenital employeer and perhaps a career. I have always admired GE’s innovativeness and its value to the communities where they have plants and/offices.
I am 17 and will turn 18 June 1, 2011. I am a hard worker, good (ok…I strive for excellence) with people and with tasks I am given at work and home. I graduated from Bluegrass Challenge Academy at Fort Knox Milliatry Base (30 minutes from Louisville KY). I know I am young for most businesses other than fast foods, etc. However, I believe that I can make a contribution to GE and hopefully, in a small way, make its future better. I would like to know more about the following opportunities that GE offers for young talent.
1) What is the Co-Op program and what are the criteria for being considered for the program? How does one apply?
2) What does an internship with GE offer and what could and intern contribute if given the opportunity? What is the criteria for being awarded an internship with GE? How does one apply?
3) is there any possibiltiy of someone my age applying for a position and becomeing employeed at GE plant or in one of the many office centers around the contry? I know my skills need to match the company’s needs but I don’t know where to start to even find out how to look for the right opportunity. Such as…The GE plant in Louisville KY just announced that they were hiring 300 people at the beginning of 2011. With my high school education, is there any chance for me to be chosen and hired at this plant or of being considered at all? (I am planning to go to Jefferson Community College to begin Sp 2011) This might sound like a question that has an apparent answer but if I don’t ask, I will never know —- and I dont’ know the answer now.
I would appreciate ANY information you can provide me and my quest for a potential career with GE. Any guidance will be taken to heart. Thank you for reading and hopefully responding to this email and me.

GREAT !!!
Sounds like a great internship, to get experience in event marketing and trade show management.
Hi Justin,
To answer your questions in order:
1) Co-ops are for students still in school who would like to work at GE while they’re in the program. Please see http://www.ge.com/internship.
2) Please see the same link above.
3) Please review each job’s requirements carefully. The requirements vary by job, but they will indicate education level if relevant to the position. If you haven’t joined GE’s talent community, consider joining by entering your email in the top right corner of this page. Also, be sure to review the recruiter advice column on this same blog for more great ideas.
Good luck!
